Pilot Implementation Areas

Yesilyurt, Alasehir

All field interviews conducted for the GYSU project have shown that activities and training programs implemented without practice based data would have a limited positive impact on proper fertilizer use and the protection of groundwater. It was understood that sharing results obtained from areas where nutrition programs are developed and applied based on soil and water analyses, and where fertilization principles are correctly implemented, would be effective.

Within this scope, two implementation sites were selected in cooperation with the Manisa Viticulture Research Institute.

  1. Şahyar, Alaşehir
  2. Yeşilyurt, Alaşehir

Both locations are areas in Alaşehir where commercial scale viticulture is widespread and where medium and large scale producers operate. Due to these characteristics, field studies and pilot implementations carried out in these areas have the potential to generate results that can be generalized not only locally but also across the district and the Gediz Basin.

Şahyar and Yeşilyurt are among the regions where groundwater levels are declining, irrigation infrastructure is under pressure, and fertilizer use largely relies on traditional methods. This situation makes these areas critical test sites for measuring the impact of water efficiency and proper fertilization practices.

The Şahyar Irrigation Cooperative operating in Şahyar plays an important facilitating role in terms of access to producers, land allocation, and on site monitoring of practices. Yeşilyurt, on the other hand, is a site owned by the Manisa Viticulture Research Institute, offering a high level of control where best practices are implemented directly.
